Pathos

Tantalus stands with arms
In pathetic outreach

So too do I see with arms stretched
All that I want

The words I long to say
The style to say it with

And when I am on the threshold
Of understanding

It all flows away again

Constant plodding
Ever moving forward
And uphill

Continual exertion
Wholehearted effort
Going up a grueling hill

Hoping the end is nearing
This time, will it sick?
The boulder rolls back

Down upon me

And when the sweet fruit
Reaches the lips

And quenches the thirst
A new hunger is created

Adam and Eve they finally knew
As Pandora did also learn

The price of knowledge is pain
