One of the manga series I’m reading is Ooku, by Fumi Yoshinaga. It’s set in an alternative feudal Japan. A disease known as the Red Pox has spread, its deadly and only targets men. The entire country changes. Men become commodities, women take over all the roles from regular housework to business and even being the shogun. Only the rich can afford a husband, the brothels are now filled with men, since every woman is just desperate to conceive.
While the series roughly follows the newest shogun, each one has a different focus, a different male character, charting all the different levels of life that have been changed and how people must shift their ideals and realize their new responsibilities and duties.
It’s a very interesting series that I highly recommend. The fifth one just came out at the end of December but I have not yet read it.
I am going crazy though because I somehow misplaced the third one. This has never happened to me before, I have never actually lost a book, and I have no idea where it is.
